Majete
Woodland & River Systems
Majete brings woodland, river systems and an important conservation story within practical reach of Blantyre. It is the essential safari component in the 7- and 10-day southern journeys and remains valuable in longer routes when the sequence avoids backtracking.
Relationships: From Blantyre: approximately 1.5–2.5 hours, depending on the selected entry point, road and conditions.
Character: Road-based safari, landscape interpretation and selected additional activities are subject to local operating confirmation.
Liwonde
River & Floodplain
Liwonde is defined by the Shire River and the contrast between water, floodplain and woodland. It gives the 14-day and longer journeys a safari chapter that feels materially different from Majete.
Relationships: From Zomba: approximately 1.5–2.5 hours. From the southern lake: timing depends on the chosen lake base.
Character: Game drives, river-based viewing and birding may be considered, subject to conditions, permissions and confirmed operators.
Nkhotakota
Central Wilderness
Nkhotakota offers scale, escarpment terrain and a more remote central Malawi atmosphere. It suits longer journeys where wilderness, time and route continuity matter more than a concentrated checklist of sightings.
Relationships: From Lilongwe or a central lake base: commonly a substantial half-day movement; the final range depends on the exact base and route.
Character: Forest, river and conservation-focused exploration, with activity format confirmed locally.
Nyika
The Plateau Expedition
Nyika is not a conventional lowland safari. Its rolling montane grasslands, altitude, weather and remoteness make it an expedition chapter for the 21- and 28-day journeys. The journey to the plateau is part of the experience and must be paced accordingly.
Relationships: From northern Lake Malawi: often approximately 5–7 hours or more, depending on the lake base, road and plateau conditions.
Character: Landscape-led game viewing, walking and specialist nature interests are subject to weather and operating confirmation.

What partners should know
Majete utility: Positioned as the practical safari anchor for all shorter southern itineraries (7 & 10 days).
Liwonde contrast: Best used to provide river/floodplain contrast; it should complement rather than duplicate other reserve chapters.
Nkhotakota and Nyika access: Must be justified by sufficient journey length to absorb the travel time.
Nyika logistics: Requires specific weather, road, and vehicle contingency planning due to high-altitude nature.
Conditional Wording: All guest-facing activity descriptions must remain indicative and strictly conditional on local factors.
