Tea country, mountain paths and cooler air shape Malawi's south. The highlands bring walking, agricultural heritage, broad views and a slower counterpoint to safari and lake time.
Southern Malawi · approximately 45 minutes to 3.5 hours between key highland areas, depending on the route and road conditions.
Majete · Liwonde · Nkhotakota · Nyika
These are four very different wilderness settings: southern woodland, the Shire River, central escarpment country and high-altitude northern grassland. The right reserve depends on the journey, season and desired pace.
South, central and north · reserve access ranges from a short transfer from Blantyre to a full expedition day for Nyika.
Northern & Southern Lake Malawi
The lake is not one destination. Its southern shores offer an accessible transition into clear water and island life; the north is more remote, dramatic and suited to longer, slower journeys.
