The journey

What this journey feels like

Fourteen days create the space for Malawi’s southern landscapes to unfold properly. This open-jaw route begins in Blantyre and finishes in Lilongwe, reducing backtracking and giving the lake a genuine rest day rather than treating it as a final photograph.

Tea slopes and Mulanje create a human, highland opening before Majete’s dry woodland and Liwonde’s river channels provide two genuinely different wildlife perspectives. Three nights beside the lake then slow the rhythm before a protected final night in Lilongwe.

Why 14 days works

The southern arc

The route moves cleanly from Blantyre through tea country, Mulanje, Majete, Zomba and Liwonde before turning to the lake.

Two safari perspectives

Majete’s dry woodland and Liwonde’s Shire River create genuine contrast rather than repetition.

A lake chapter, not a stop

Three nights preserve a full rest day alongside time for water and locally led context.
